SEATTLE, WA – March 23rd and 24th, 2013

Four classes will be offered in Seattle, WA over the weekend of March 23-24th, in 4 sessions over 2 days.

Session 1 – Beginner’s Henna 101 – 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, March 23rd 2013

This class is aimed at total beginners in the world of henna, who want to learn how to make their own henna paste, learn about and begin practicing application techniques, and start to look into design theory. Materials will be provided and no previous experience is necessary. Bring a notebook and pen.

Session 2 – World Design Overview - 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, March 23rd 2013

This class will give you a close look at styles of henna design from around the world. We will cover designs and elements from Pakistan, Morocco, Sudan, the UAE, Rajasthan, and several other areas. You will learn about the unique stylistic elements that make up each style and give it a signature look, and how to start incorporating these designs into your own work. This class is suitable for artists at all levels. Bring a sketchbook and pen.

Session 3 – Composition and Techniques Intensive –  10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, March 24th 2013

This class is designed for the practicing henna artist who wants to improve her artistic eye. We will work on developing strong compositions that create a variety of different effects and impressions, while pulling in our own unique artistic influences and ideas. This class will include a hands-on section in which we will look at how some of these compositional elements are physically created and what techniques we need to employ to achieve the effects we desire. Some materials will be provided but you are encouraged to bring tools of your choice as well.

Session 4 – Artist’s Symposium and Discussion – 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, March 24th 3013

This is a discussion based class which will focus on our past, present, and future as artists. Henna art has come a very long way since it first became popular in the West, and it has a long way to go. We will discuss our experiences with this ever changing medium, with an eye toward the future of our industry and our art. This is the place to figure out where you want to go as an individual artist and in the artist’s community at large.

Classes can be purchased singly or in groups. All sessions will be meaningful to artists of any level, though sessions 2, 3, and 4 are content heavy and will be best suited for artists with some experience.

You may pick and choose which sessions you would like to attend, or attend a group of sessions at a slight discount.

Class sessions can be purchased through Eventbrite at the following link: http://seattlehenna.eventbrite.com/
